Dear Juliet (On your first birthday)...

Dear Juliet,

We met one year ago, but I have to say, it feels like you have always been part of our family. When Daddy and I found out that the little baby inside my tummy was another girl, we laughed and told the tech that God thinks we are good at girls! I immediately started daydreaming about matching outfits, tea parties, and continuing my blissful world of all things pink, purple, and glittery. I knew that a little sister would be so very special to Violet. You see, I have an older sister, but there are four boys and 16 years in between us. I was so happy that my daughters would have the opportunity to do something I didn't get to - which is actually grow up with a sister close in age. (For the record, your Aunt Wendy and I are very close now).

When you arrived, I was most nervous about how your big sister Violet would adjust. Thankfully, the transition was seamless. Violet refers to you as Sis, Sissy, Jujube, Jujubaby. The first thing she asks when I wake her up in the morning is "Where's sis?" She loves you! She always wants to snuggle with you in your crib when you wake up.

You are super in love with your Daddy. Your arms start flailing and you squeal when he comes home from work. You love snuggling with him and I love watching it! You and Daddy are a lot alike. Violet and Mommy are a lot alike. You guys balance us out very well!

The first six months of your life were similar to your sister's...very very hard. You did not love to sleep or be put down...so mommy wore you a LOT, and cuddled you, and did everything I could think of to make you comfy and happy. I always told Daddy that your smiles made it all worth it. You smile so quickly and easily, it sure is a nice reward for your tired mama.

As the months progress and I see you getting smarter, stronger, and bigger, I am so thankful for the way you are just picking up on things. You are so smart! You learned how to go down the stairs on your tummy without anyone ever showing you! You can open and close things so well, and you're trying to say lots of words. You make mommy and daddy very proud.

What I notice most in you is your sweet demeanor that disguises a little stubborn streak. For the most part, you go with the flow, until something doesn't meet your requirements; then we all hear about it! Believe it or not, I am thankful for that strong will, because I want you to be brave and courageous, but I want you to be respectful and kind as well. God has placed you in our family for His perfect reasons, He gave you the perfect personality for YOU, and we love you so very much.

I know that you will change tremendously in the next year, and we are so excited to see more of your personality and more of that big bright smile we love! You, dear daughter, are one of my greatest treasures.

Love,
Mommy
