wrecking ball (noun): a heavy steel ball, usually hung from a crane, that is used for demolishing large buildings.
Violet has endearingly earned the above nickname of wrecking ball (sometimes shortened to WB.) This little girl has a love for the theatrical side of life, much like her momma. :) The second month of Violet's life has been a challenge! Not solely because of Violet, but because I started working from home full time this month. I had been doing some amount of work remotely since she was born, but February 3rd started full time hours. The horticultural company I work for is in peak season and everyone is very busy and there are new unexpected challenges every day. It has been extremely stressful trying to juggle both a newborn and a demanding job all day, every day (the company is international which means emails come 24/7 from several time zones). At the end of the day, I am thankful for a job that I am able to do remotely when I need to! Here is a little peek into my work day:
Violet likes to be part of my work!
Sometimes I look down and I get a little jealous that she gets to sleep.

It is not all rainbows and sunshine!
Tim and I went out without Violet for the first time on February 15th for the George Strait concert Cowboy Rides Away Tour. This tour is George's last, and it was pretty significant to us because 7 years ago the same week was our first date to the same venue to see George. So we got to do it again 7 years later! Our good friends watched Violet and while I missed her and it was strange to be away from her for more than a few minutes, it was so great to reconnect with my husband! Hopefully it won't be as hard to leave her next time.
Violet has changed in so many ways this month. She much more easily smiles, she is content for longer periods of time, and she wakes 2-3 times per night instead of 3-4 times. It can only get better from here, right? :) I love watching her grow but it is also bittersweet to put away the newborn diapers and move up to a size 1!
We heard in church a couple weeks ago a thought that really hit me. "When you become a parent, the days are long and the years are short." I think about that every day and how although my days seem endless and tiring, so exhausting that I don't know how I'll do it again the next day; the time my little girl is small and dependent is a very short amount of time in the scheme of her life. Then I thought about her tongue-in-cheek nickname and how maybe the Lord is using my wrecking ball, Violet, to tear down my selfishness and pride and will use her to help construct a better me - a me that is more loving, patient, sympathetic, and joyful.
